Perfect Garden Route Weather and Climate
Our Garden Route region has a Oceanic Mediterranean climate, with moderately hot summers, and mild to chilly winters. It is one of the richest rainfall areas in South Africa. Most of the rains occurs in the winter months June to August brought on by the humid sea-winds from the Indian ocean. You can witness the most impressive winter storms and cloud formations from la Vista Lodge.

The Garden Route enjoys a Mediterranean Oceanic climate, which is intrinsically temperate and mild all year round. Summers are warm but not too hot, and winters are cool but mostly frost free. Second only to Hawaii, the Garden Route is acclaimed for having one of the mildest climates in the world.
The Garden Route's temperate weather falls between two climatic regions of summer and winter rainfall so it rains mostly at night which keeps the area perennially green and ensuring towns such as Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Nature’s Valley, Storms River and Wilderness are wonderful holiday towns to base yourself in.
You can feel spring in the air by the end of August and into September. October can be quite mixed because just when you think summer has arrived, another cold front moves in and evenings can still be chilly.
Summer is from November to March and often mild warm temperatures extend far into April and days are warmer, with December to February seeing mid-summer daily temperatures of about 24-30ºC.
Temperatures start cooling down from about April (Autumn) but it can still be very pleasant until June. June, July and August are the winter months with a chance of seeing at least one day of snow covered mountains at the horizon.
Plett’s mountains almost always get at least one light dusting of snow during the winter months. So it happend on the third Sunday in July 2019.
The days may be bright and warm, when the sun is out but it gets cold in the evening.
