I must admit those almonds are sicilian almonds we used at our German Bakery.
the Almond tree in Plettenberg Bay is still young. Almonds are related to Plums and Nectarines.
Almond trees are deep-rooted and can tolerate dry conditions. Mild frost would not harm the trees. A total of 12-24 days below 7°C are needed to set fruit.
